Description

Hanafuda Koikoi is a traditional Japanese card game, and this is the English version of Hanafuda Koi-Koi.

Koi-Koi (Japanese: こいこい) is a widely enjoyed card game in Japan, played with Hanafuda cards. It is one of the ways to play Hanafuda, which are traditional Japanese playing cards, and is designed for two players.

The primary objective of the game is to form combinations of cards, known as "yaku," faster than your opponent. The term "koi-koi" translates to "come on" in Japanese and is used when a player chooses to continue the hand instead of cashing in their points.

The goal is to create these special card combinations, or yaku, from the cards accumulated in a point pile. Players can add cards to their point piles by matching cards from their hand or drawing from the deck with cards already on the table. Once a yaku is formed, a player has the option to stop and claim their points or continue playing (referred to as "koi-koi," which gives the game its name) to form more yaku for additional points. While the point values on individual cards do not directly affect the score, they are useful in assessing their value in forming yaku.
