Learn How to Solve Equations with Kahoot! Algebra by DragonBox

Kahoot! Algebra by DragonBox, included in a Kahoot!+ Family subscription, is an engaging and intuitive app designed to introduce young learners as young as five to the world of algebra. This game makes learning fun and easy, allowing children to grasp the basic processes involved in solving linear equations without even realizing they are learning.

Subscription Requirement

To access the content and functionality of Kahoot! Algebra by DragonBox, a Kahoot!+ Family subscription is required. The subscription starts with a 7-day free trial and can be cancelled at any time before the trial ends. This subscription not only provides access to Kahoot! Algebra but also to other premium Kahoot! features and several award-winning learning apps for children to explore math and reading.

How the Game Works

Kahoot! Algebra by DragonBox introduces key algebraic concepts such as:

  • Addition
  • Division
  • Multiplication

Designed for children aged five and up, the app uses a novel pedagogical method based on discovery and experimentation. Players engage in a colorful and playful game environment, where they manipulate cards to isolate the DragonBox on one side of the game board. This activity gradually teaches the operations necessary to isolate X on one side of an equation. As players progress, cards are replaced with numbers and variables, revealing the addition, division, and multiplication operators they've been learning.

The game can be played independently, but parents can also assist their children in transferring the skills learned in the game to solving equations on paper. It's an excellent opportunity for family learning and for parents to refresh their own math skills.

Development and Recognition

Kahoot! Algebra by DragonBox was developed by former math teacher Jean-Baptiste Huynh and has been recognized for its innovative approach to game-based learning. It has been the subject of extensive research by the Center For Game Science at the University of Washington.
