The Armadillo, a passive mob introduced in Minecraft's 1.20.5 "Armored Paws" update, is found in various warm biomes. Its tough scutes are crucial for crafting Wolf Armor. Here's how to acquire them:
Acquiring Armadillo Scutes:
Armadillos inhabit warm biomes, spawning in groups of two or three. They defensively curl into a ball when startled, so approach cautiously. These biomes include: Badlands, Eroded Badlands, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Windswept Savanna, and Wooded Badlands.
Two methods exist for obtaining scutes:
-
Patient Waiting: Similar to collecting chicken eggs, an Armadillo sheds a single scute every 5-10 minutes. This passive approach requires no tools but can be time-consuming.
-
Using a Brush: This popular method utilizes a crafted Brush. While often used to examine sand or gravel, it efficiently collects one scute per use on an Armadillo.
Brush Details:
A Brush, crafted with a Feather, Copper Ingot, and Stick (placed vertically in the crafting grid), can be used four times (Java Edition) or five times (Bedrock Edition) before breaking. Damaged Brushes can be repaired using an anvil, preserving enchantments like Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing.
Approach Armadillos slowly, then use the brush to collect scutes. Multiple brushes yield a larger quantity, sufficient for crafting Wolf Armor (requiring six scutes).
Once you've gathered enough scutes, craft Wolf Armor at a crafting table. These methods currently represent the only ways to obtain and utilize Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft.
