The much-anticipated Amazon adaptation of the iconic video game series, God of War, has yet to premiere but is already confirmed for two seasons, as announced by the show's new showrunner, Ronald D. Moore. Moore stepped in to lead the project following the exit of former showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. In a recent chat with his fellow Battlestar Galactica alumnus Katee Sackhoff, Moore shared insights into his latest endeavor.

"Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore explained. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, working on that. That's my new thing."

Despite not being an avid gamer, Moore enjoys classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He humorously admitted his struggles with modern game controllers, saying, "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead."

In his new role with God of War, Moore will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. His notable past works include Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, as well as being the showrunner for the acclaimed 2000s Battlestar Galactica.

Despite some changes in the production team, Sony's Cory Barlog continues to be involved as an executive producer. While specifics about the series remain under wraps, it is known that it will be based on the 2018 God of War game.

Amazon's track record of quickly renewing successful video game adaptations, such as the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, suggests a promising outlook for the God of War series on the streaming platform.
