This final stage of Chapter 2 tasks you with defeating Dong Zhuo. Expect a significantly longer and more difficult battle than previous missions.

Begin by clearing the four enemy bases in the bottom right of the map. Conquering two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base-clearing strategy; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon.

After securing all bases, assault Hulao Gate. This initiates a major clash with Dong Zhuo's forces. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he unleashes his Grand Tactic, weakening the defenses and allowing you to advance.

Lu Bu Appears

Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu. **Avoid direct confrontation.** A one-on-one fight is suicidal. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers on the periphery to maintain morale, which Lu Bu significantly drains. Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (Yuan Shao). **Resist the urge to pursue him.** Liu Bei's forces will defend, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. Their defense is temporary; once they retreat, you must be close to defeating Dong Zhuo, otherwise Lu Bu will defeat Yuan Shao and end the mission.

Go After Dong Zhuo

Once Lu Bu leaves, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Then, capture the northern and western bases. With all three squads ready, and fully healed, charge towards Dong Zhuo's commander's circle.

Dong Zhuo will initiate a Grand Tactic (fireballs). Destroy the front two catapults. Use Musou Rage if available, clearing a path through the soldiers guarding the catapults. Focus on eliminating soldiers and officers around the catapults and barricade to allow your forces to destroy them, ending the Grand Tactic.

Dong Zhuo will launch another Grand Tactic. This time, defeat an officer to stop it. Take the right-hand stairs; be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, now fighting for Dong Zhuo. If possible, duel her; defeating her simplifies the fight. Once the Grand Tactic ends, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should overwhelm his remaining troops. Dian Wei might even initiate a Grand Tactic, further easing your assault on Dong Zhuo. Defeat Dong Zhuo conventionally; at this point, he and his forces offer minimal resistance.
