Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Comparison
At the outset of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll face a crucial decision: selecting your character's class. Operator, Machinist, and Extractor each offer unique strengths and weaknesses, impacting your gameplay experience. This guide helps you decide which best suits your style.
Operator:
The Operator begins with a bonus to Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skill. Endure is unlevelable. Their special ability lets them trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.
While powerful later on, the Operator can feel challenging early in the game. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't always a guaranteed advantage. Role-playing wise, the Operator is versatile, fitting various character concepts.
Machinist:
The Machinist starts with a bonus to Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. Engage is unlevelable. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their lowest die, also reducing Stress on positive outcomes.
This class proved highly effective in my playthrough. The ability to mitigate Stress is invaluable, especially considering Stress management is a core game mechanic. The starting skills are also highly relevant to many in-game challenges. From a role-playing standpoint, this class is ideal for players focused on the game's technical and mechanical aspects.
Extractor:
The Extractor begins with a bonus to Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is unlevelable. Their ability lets them spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, further enhancing crew effectiveness as the game progresses.
The Extractor's ability is particularly useful for mitigating risks associated with Contracts. The starting bonus to Endure is also beneficial, as Endure checks are frequent. However, I found myself with a surplus of crew members skilled in Endure and Engage. This class is perfect for players who prefer a more physically capable, "bruiser" type character.
Ultimately, the optimal class depends on your preferred playstyle. Consider your strengths and weaknesses, and choose wisely!
