Get a Dell or Alienware GeForce RTX 4090 Prebuilt Gaming PC for as Low as $2,850

by Ryan Mar 21,2025

The GeForce RTX 4090, while a generation older than the Blackwell 50 series, remains a powerhouse GPU, outperforming the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. Only the RTX 5090 surpasses it, but finding one at a reasonable price is a Herculean task. With the RTX 4090 discontinued, sourcing it is becoming increasingly difficult.

Fortunately, Dell offers two pre-built gaming PCs featuring the RTX 4090 at competitive prices: the Alienware Aurora R16, starting at $3,299.99, and the Dell Tower Plus, starting at $2,849.99. These represent some of the best current deals for an RTX 4090 pre-built system, as many other manufacturers, including Lenovo and HP, no longer offer such configurations.

$3,299.99 at Alienware

This Alienware Aurora R16 boasts an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The CPU is upgradeable to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though this is generally unnecessary for gaming, as performance at higher resolutions is largely GPU-bound. The included Intel Core Ultra 7 265F offers a 5.3GHz max turbo frequency and 20 cores, effectively cooled by a 240mm AIO liquid cooler. The system is powered by a 1000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The Dell Tower Plus offers similar specifications: Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Consider upgrading the CPU to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K for $100; this not only improves processing power but also upgrades the cooling solution to a more robust 125W TDP tower heatsink. The system also features a 1000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

RTX 4090 Performance: A Current Perspective

The RTX 4090 reigns supreme among RTX 40 series GPUs. Only the $2,000 RTX 5090 offers superior performance. It effortlessly handles 4K gaming, delivering 60+ fps even with maximum settings and ray tracing enabled (especially with DLSS support). While path tracing remains demanding for all GPUs, it's rarely used outside of benchmarks. The RTX 5090's extra performance is largely unnecessary for most users, as the 4090 excels in virtually all gaming scenarios.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke: "The RTX 4090 may be huge and expensive, but holy smokes if it doesn’t blow the competition out of the water. Even the $1,599 price doesn’t seem unreasonable for the unrivaled frame rates this card delivers."
