"Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership"

FromSoftware has recently unveiled more details about their upcoming exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has influenced not only the game's style but also the design of the hub area's keeper, introducing a character with a notably different aesthetic—one that's described as cute.

The trailer for The Duskbloods, showcased during the Switch 2 Direct, concluded with a striking image of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs. This character, as it turns out, will serve as the hub companion for players. In an interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance."

Miyazaki further elaborated on the design choice, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership." He humorously added, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)."

FromSoftware's hub characters have always been pivotal to the player's experience, serving as familiar touchpoints throughout the game. Icons like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have been central to players' journeys, often providing essential power-ups and guidance. With The Duskbloods being a PvPvE game, it will be intriguing to see how the winged rat character will assist players in navigating its world.

Miyazaki hinted at the game's innovative approach, stating, "The team at FromSoft has tried its hands at introducing a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players should brace for surprises when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
