Oblivion Remake Hints Emerge: Unreal Engine 5 and 2025 Release Speculation
Recent developments strongly suggest an Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake is underway, potentially utilizing Unreal Engine 5. A LinkedIn profile belonging to a Technical Art Director at Virtuos, a studio rumored to be involved, lists an "unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S," fueling speculation. While the game isn't explicitly named, the engine choice points towards a full remake rather than a simple remaster. This aligns with persistent rumors and leaks suggesting a 2024 or 2025 release.
Xbox insider Jez Corden further fueled the anticipation by predicting a reveal during a potential Xbox Developer Direct in January 2025. Although unconfirmed, the timing aligns with previous Developer Directs held in January 2023 and 2024.
The original Oblivion, released in 2006, remains a beloved title praised for its expansive world and immersive gameplay. Interestingly, a fan-made Skyblivion mod, recreating Oblivion within Skyrim's engine, is also slated for a 2025 release, highlighting the enduring appeal of the game.
Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls VI remains shrouded in mystery. Its sole trailer, released in 2018, offers little insight into its release date. Bethesda's focus on Starfield and Todd Howard's previous comments suggest a release window considerably further out. However, fans remain hopeful for a new Elder Scrolls VI trailer before the end of 2025. The potential Oblivion remake reveal could potentially overshadow this hope, however. The timing of both potential reveals remains uncertain.
