Netflix Games is making some significant changes to its Android game library. Specifically, Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be removed from the platform next month.
Why the Removal and When?
This isn't a surprise; Netflix licenses games similarly to movies and shows. The licenses for these two GTA titles are expiring. A "Leaving Soon" notification will appear on the games before their removal on December 13th. Their initial 12-month agreement with Rockstar Games is concluding.
If you're currently playing either game, you'll need to finish before the 13th. However, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains available on Netflix Games.
Future of these GTA Titles
To continue your GTA experience, you can purchase the Definitive Editions of GTA III and Vice City on the Google Play Store. Each costs $4.99, or you can buy the entire trilogy for $11.99.
Unlike previous removals (like Samurai Shodown V and WrestleQuest), Netflix is providing advance notice. This is notable, considering the GTA trilogy significantly boosted Netflix Games subscriptions in 2023.
Speculation suggests Rockstar and Netflix are collaborating on potential future releases, possibly remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and even Chinatown Wars. We eagerly await confirmation on this rumor.
