Marvel Rivals Reveals How Often Fans Can Expect New Heroes

Marvel Rivals: An Ambitious Hero Release Schedule

Marvel Rivals, NetEase's hit third-person hero shooter, launched in December 2024 with a roster of 33 playable heroes. The game's phenomenal success, attracting 20 million players in its first month, is fueling an aggressive content release plan.

The game's director, Guangyun Chen, revealed in a recent interview with Metro that the development team aims to introduce a new hero approximately every 45 days. This ambitious strategy translates to eight new heroes annually, significantly exceeding the output of competitors like Overwatch 2. Season 1, already underway, showcases this commitment, with the Fantastic Four being introduced in stages. Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman are currently available, with The Thing and Human Torch slated for release later in the season. Season 1 also includes two new New York City maps.

This rapid release schedule has sparked debate among fans. While NetEase has access to a vast library of Marvel characters, including lesser-known heroes like Jeff the Shark and Squirrel Girl, concerns exist regarding the development and playtesting time required for each new hero. Balancing new abilities against 37 existing heroes and approximately 100 abilities presents a significant challenge. The feasibility of maintaining this pace without a substantial backlog of pre-developed heroes remains a question.

Despite these concerns, Marvel Rivals players can anticipate the remaining Fantastic Four members soon. Additional content, such as new maps or in-game events, is also possible during the latter half of Season 1. Fans are encouraged to follow Marvel Rivals' social media channels for updates.
