NieR: Automata offers a wide array of weapons, allowing players to experiment with different weapon types across multiple playthroughs. Each weapon is upgradable multiple times, extending their usefulness and enabling players to utilize most weapons throughout the game.
Weapon upgrades are performed at the Resistance Camp, requiring specific resources. One less common, yet crucial material is Beast Hides; this guide details how to acquire and farm them efficiently.
Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata
Beast Hides are obtained by defeating wildlife like moose and boar. These animals spawn randomly in specific map areas, generally avoiding players and nearby robots. Their white icons on the mini-map distinguish them from the black icons of machines. Efficient farming is challenging due to their infrequent spawns.
Moose and boar are found only in the ruined city and forest zones. Their reaction to attacks depends on your level relative to theirs; higher-level animals might flee or aggressively engage. Wildlife boasts substantial health, making early-game encounters with similarly leveled or higher-level animals difficult.
Using Animal Bait can lure wildlife, simplifying their defeat.
Since wildlife doesn't respawn continuously during the main storyline, you'll need to hunt them during exploration. Respawn mechanics for wildlife and machines are similar:
- Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
- Traveling a sufficient distance triggers respawns in previous areas.
- Story events can also cause respawns of nearby enemies and wildlife.
There's no straightforward method for efficiently farming Beast Hides. Simply eliminate any wildlife encountered while exploring the forest and city ruins; this usually provides sufficient hides. Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, preventing the need for excessive stockpiling, provided you're not upgrading more weapons than you can equip simultaneously.
