Nintendo Addresses Alleged Switch 2 Reports

Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"

Nintendo has issued a rare public statement regarding the recent flurry of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. A company representative confirmed that the circulating images are not official Nintendo materials, citing the company's absence from this year's Consumer Electronics Show. While this statement is seemingly self-evident, it marks an unusual instance of Nintendo directly addressing product leaks.

Leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been prevalent since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, sparking widespread dissemination of images across social media. Nintendo's comment, provided to the Sankei Shimbun, specifically addressed these images and videos, labeling them as unofficial.

The Accuracy of Genki's Replica

While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the accuracy of Genki's replica, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most notable differences from the original Switch are its slightly larger size and the inclusion of an additional button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to clarify the "C" button's purpose, added that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will reportedly use magnetic attachment and function as mouse controllers, corroborating existing speculation.

Upcoming Reveal and Release

Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 unveiling within its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation builds for an official announcement. Market release is not expected until at least the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point of $399.
