Announcing Ananta: The Formerly Known as Project Mugen Open-World RPG
Remember Project Mugen, the anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's had a name change! Now officially titled Ananta, this game, first revealed at Gamescom 2023, has finally released a new trailer after a long silence. More details are promised on December 5th, but for now, enjoy the trailer:
The Name Change Mystery
The developers haven't yet explained the name change. Interestingly, "Ananta" means "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of "Mugen" (also "infinite"). The Chinese title reinforces this thematic consistency.
While gamer opinions on the name change are divided, there's collective relief that the project hasn't been canceled. Comparisons are already being drawn with Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, but lacks gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some. Personally, I find Ananta's visuals more captivating.
A Curious Social Media Reset
Here's where things get unusual. The development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only the Discord server remains, simply renamed. This clean sweep has left many players puzzled, as a simple renaming of existing accounts would have seemed a more straightforward approach.
Ananta's Premise
In Ananta, you embody an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator tackling paranormal disturbances. The cast features characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
