Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This innovative game, initially announced in 2018, is finally moving towards release after a period of quiet development and a recent "not-a-trailer-trailer" release.
The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, focused on the game's unique approach to interactive storytelling. BreakthroughT1D, a leading organization funding Type 1 diabetes research, uses its Twitch channel to collaborate with the gaming community for fundraising and awareness.
Proxi is described as an "AI life sim built from your memories." Players input personal memories as text, which the game transforms into animated scenes. These scenes, called "mems," are customizable using in-game assets. Each new mem enhances the game's AI and adds to the player's "mind world," a navigable 3D environment.
This mind world expands as more mems are added, populating with Proxies representing friends and family. Mems are arranged chronologically and linked to Proxies, reflecting the context and individuals involved in each memory. Remarkably, Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds like Minecraft and Roblox.
Wright emphasized Proxi's focus on personalized experiences, stating, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player," and highlighting the game's design principle: "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He jokingly added, "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
