IGN's exclusive first look at the 2018 Sonic the Hedgehog movie generated mixed reactions, with fans focusing on Sonic's teeth, physique, eyes, and fingers. Following the criticism, director Jeff Fowler redesigned the character, resulting in a much more positive response.
While the reaction to Shrek's new look is less intense than Sonic's initial debut, Sonic's playful advice has amused fans. Comments included, "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," and "No way they actually posted this" accompanied by a crying emoji.
Initially announced in 2016, Shrek 5 remained largely silent until 2023 when Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, confirmed its development and hinted at a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026, moving Minions 3 to the film's original slot.
