Work on Steam FPS Game Paused Because Dev is Going to Prison for 3 Years

Fortune's Run, a Steam FPS, faces an indefinite early access delay due to its sole developer, Dizzie, receiving a three-year prison sentence. This unique circumstance, unlike typical delays stemming from financial or technical issues, halts all development until Dizzie's release.

Prior to this news, Fortune's Run enjoyed positive Steam reviews, praised for its nostalgic art style and gameplay. However, future updates are now on hold. While the game's Steam page targets a 2026 release from early access, this is highly unlikely given the circumstances. The precedent of lengthy early access periods for indie games, such as Satisfactory's five-year journey, suggests a three-year delay is not unprecedented.

Dizzie's January 14th Steam update revealed the prison sentence, pre-dating the game's development. Dizzie acknowledged past violent behavior. Although not the only recent instance of legal issues impacting game developers (streamer Johnny Somali's arrest in South Korea being another example), this situation is unusual.

Initially, Fortune's Run had a second team member, but their departure following a surgery and disinterest in game development left Dizzie as the sole developer. Development will cease entirely until February 2025 when Dizzie begins their sentence. Dizzie assures fans the game will be completed upon release from prison. The game remains playable in its current early access state, and players can explore other early access shooters on Steam in the interim.
