Stellar Blade is Coming to PC in 2025: A PlayStation Exclusive Makes the Leap
Following its PlayStation exclusive launch in April, SHIFT UP has confirmed that the action-packed sci-fi title, Stellar Blade, will arrive on PC in 2025! This announcement follows earlier speculation sparked by hints from SHIFT UP's CFO. The developer cited the burgeoning PC gaming market and the success of titles like Black Myth: Wukong as key drivers behind this decision.
While a precise release date remains unannounced, SHIFT UP plans to maintain the game's popularity through various initiatives. These include a highly anticipated collaboration DLC with Platinum Games' NieR: Automata, the addition of a much-requested Photo Mode (both launching November 20th), and ongoing marketing efforts.
The PC port joins a growing trend of PlayStation exclusives making their way to PC, a move that has broadened the audience for titles like God of War Ragnarök and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, this trend has also raised concerns.
As a Sony-published title and with SHIFT UP's second-party developer status with Sony, Stellar Blade's PC release may necessitate linking Steam accounts to PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts. This requirement would unfortunately exclude players in regions without PSN access. Sony's stated rationale centers on ensuring secure gameplay for its live-service titles, a justification that has been questioned given its application to single-player games as well.
The need for a PSN account for PC players remains unconfirmed. Given SHIFT UP's IP ownership, this requirement isn't guaranteed. However, such a mandate could potentially hinder the game's PC sales, which SHIFT UP aims to surpass console sales.
