SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Pizza Tower’, ‘Castlevania Dominus Collection’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales

by Zachary Feb 02,2025

Hello discerning readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024. Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, wasn't it? A flurry of surprise releases means our typically quiet Wednesday is anything but – and that's a welcome change! We've got news, a review of today's eShop additions, and the usual rundown of new and expiring sales. Let's dive in!

News

Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivers a Bounty of Games

Combining two smaller showcases was a smart move, resulting in a wave of announcements. While a complete rundown is impossible here, highlights include several surprise releases (detailed below), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new entries in the Atelier and Rune Factory franchises, and much more. I highly recommend watching the video; even a quick skim will reveal plenty of enticing titles for diverse gaming preferences.

Select New Releases

Castlevania Dominus Collection ($24.99)

A third Castlevania compilation emerged from the Direct's shadow drops. This collection features the three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the infamous arcade game, Haunted Castle, alongside an M2-developed remake that significantly improves upon the original. M2's expertise shines through with excellent emulation and a comprehensive feature set. A fantastic value for the price.

Pizza Tower ($19.99)

This Wario Land-inspired platformer sprints onto the Switch as another Direct surprise. Conquer the five massive floors of the Pizza Tower to save your restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will find this irresistible, but even those without a strong Wario connection should consider it if they enjoy fast-paced platforming. A review is pending.

Goat Simulator 3 ($29.99)

The shadow drops continue – a Wednesday wouldn't be complete without them! Goat Simulator 3 delivers more of the chaotic goat-based mayhem. While Switch performance remains unverified, it's worth noting that more powerful systems have encountered some difficulties. Approach with caution, but even subpar performance might enhance the game's inherent absurdity. Ultimately, it's a question of whether the open-world antics of silly goats will appeal to you – or potentially cause your Switch to overheat.

Peglin ($19.99)

While it's easy to criticize missed opportunities, EA's decision to omit PopCap games from the Switch feels like a significant oversight. But the absence of Peggle doesn't mean we can't find a substitute. For fellow Peggle enthusiasts, Peglin is highly recommended. Already available on mobile, this title seamlessly transitions to Switch, blending Peggle mechanics with a turn-based RPG roguelite structure. A review is forthcoming.

Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story ($20.00)

Kairosoft's shop simulation formula receives a fresh coat of paint with the Doraemon license. Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story features characters from the popular manga and anime, with a noticeable effort to stay true to the source material. Even cameo appearances from characters from the manga artist's other works add to the charm.

Pico Park 2 ($8.99)

More Pico Park for existing fans. Supporting up to eight players via local or online multiplayer, this cooperative puzzle game thrives on numbers. The puzzle stages demand strategic thinking and teamwork. While a solid addition for fans, it doesn't offer enough novelty to attract newcomers.

Kamitsubaki City Ensemble ($3.99)

An affordable rhythm game showcasing Kamitsubaki Studio's music. Simple gameplay, engaging story, and enjoyable tunes. It may not be the most polished experience, but the price point makes it a worthwhile purchase.

SokoPenguin ($4.99)

A straightforward Sokoban-style puzzle game featuring a penguin. One hundred levels await; the decision of whether to purchase is entirely yours.

Q2 Humanity ($6.80)

Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles. Players utilize character abilities and drawing mechanics to solve problems. Local and online multiplayer supports up to four players.
