Ubisoft's Stealth NFT Game Launch: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.

Ubisoft's New NFT Game

Ubisoft has quietly launched Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a top-down multiplayer arcade shooter requiring players to purchase an NFT to participate. This news, initially reported by Eurogamer on December 20th, reveals a new chapter in Ubisoft's foray into the NFT gaming space.

A New Twist on an Existing Universe

As detailed on Eden Online's website, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. expands the universe of the Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. The game incorporates elements from popular Ubisoft franchises like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed, adding another layer of intrigue for fans.

Limited Access and NFT Citizen IDs

The game's competitive multiplayer mode is limited to 10,000 players. Access requires purchasing a Citizen ID Card NFT, acting as a digital passport recording player statistics and achievements. These cards dynamically evolve based on in-game performance. The cards are available for $25.63 via Ubisoft's claim page, requiring a crypto wallet. Citizens can also relinquish their citizenship and resell their IDs on the secondary market.

Game Launch and NFT Marketplace

According to Ubisoft's Magic Eden page, the full game launch is scheduled for Q1 2025. Early access is granted to those who have already secured their Citizen ID Cards.

A Far Cry Blood Dragon Spinoff

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix

The Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, serves as the inspiration, acting as an animated spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC. The series is set in an alternate 1992, where the US is a technocracy ruled by a megacorporation called Eden. The show follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier, and his journey after defecting from Eden Tech Military.

Player Agency and Narrative Influence

While Ubisoft hasn't revealed many story details, the game shares the same universe. Players assume the role of citizens under Eden's control and can impact the narrative through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community engagement. This element of player agency adds a unique dimension to the gameplay experience.
