  • Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, surpassing the 2024 total by $100,000.

From January 5 to January 13, Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2025 successfully raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, exceeding the total from the 2024 event by more than $100,000. This annual winter event, part of the Games Done Quick (GDQ) series, featured speedruns of popular games like Crazy Taxi, Super Metroid, and others spanning various genres.

Awesome Games Done Quick is one of two flagship events hosted by GDQ each year, with Summer Games Done Quick taking place in July. Additionally, GDQ organizes smaller events such as Frame Fatales and GDQ Express to bridge the gap between the main marathons. In October 2024, GDQ responded to Hurricane Helene's impact on the Southeastern US with an impromptu Disaster Relief Done Quick event, which raised over $45,000 in just over two days for Direct Relief, a charity focused on emergency aid.

Kicking off the new year, AGDQ 2025 raised a significant sum for cancer research. From January 5 to January 13, the event collected over $2.5 million, surpassing the previous year's total by over $100,000. The Prevent Cancer Foundation, benefiting from these funds, aims to advance early cancer detection and prevention, fund research, and support outreach efforts. This collaboration between GDQ and the Prevent Cancer Foundation has historically raised over $26 million across multiple events. AGDQ 2025 was held in Pittsburgh and started with a swift run of Pikmin on the Switch by speedrunner Ray0ken, completed within an hour.

A highlight of AGDQ 2025 was the run of Crazy Taxi, a beloved Dreamcast game known for its fast-paced gameplay. Despite challenges with copyrighted music, speedrunner Chuckles825 performed an 18-minute run accompanied by a live band playing the game's soundtrack, raising over $24,000 in donations.

The event concluded with a thrilling randomized, four-player race of Super Metroid on the SNES, where runners Eddie and Andy finished within a second of each other. GDQ's next event, Summer Games Done Quick 2025, will take place in Minneapolis starting July 6, supporting Doctors Without Borders.
