Concord: A Hero Shooter Launching August 23rd with a Robust Post-Launch Roadmap
Sony and Firewalk Studios have unveiled details regarding the post-launch content and roadmap for their upcoming hero shooter, Concord, launching August 23rd on PS5 and PC. Unlike many competitors, Concord eschews a traditional battle pass system, focusing instead on rewarding players through gameplay progression and completing in-game objectives. This approach ensures a rich and rewarding experience from day one.
The game's first major post-launch update, Season 1: The Tempest, arrives in October, introducing a new playable Freegunner character, a fresh map, additional character variants, and a range of cosmetic items and rewards. Weekly cinematic vignettes will further enrich the narrative, expanding on the story of the Northstar crew. An in-game store, also launching with Season 1, will offer additional cosmetic customization options without impacting gameplay balance.
Season 2 is already planned for January 2025, signifying Firewalk Studios' commitment to consistent seasonal updates throughout Concord's first year. This dedication ensures a steady stream of fresh content to keep players engaged.
Concord's unique "Crew Builder" system offers a novel approach to team composition. Players assemble teams of five Freegunners, allowing for up to three copies of any character variant. This allows for strategic team building based on preferred playstyles and match challenges. Unlike traditional shooter roles, Concord's Freegunners prioritize high damage output and effectiveness in direct combat. Six distinct roles – Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden – offer diverse tactical options, emphasizing area control, strategic positioning, and flanking maneuvers. Balancing your crew with diverse roles unlocks special Crew Bonuses, providing advantages such as enhanced mobility, reduced weapon recoil, and faster cooldown times. The developers encourage experimentation and strategic team building to maximize in-game effectiveness.
