Cursed Objects (also known as "Cursed Possessions") are randomly generated items in Phasmophobia, appearing on various maps depending on game mode and settings. Activation requires locating and interacting with them within the location.

Unlike standard equipment, Cursed Objects provide game-altering effects, each with a drawback. Benefits like pinpointing the ghost's room or boosting your team's capabilities are offset by penalties such as rapid sanity loss, temporary blindness, or unexpected Cursed Hunts.

Strategic use is crucial; sometimes, avoiding them is the best option. Note that Cursed Objects don't appear at all difficulty levels or in Challenge Mode.

Phasmophobia currently features seven Cursed Objects, each with unique abilities and negative consequences. A common effect is a substantial sanity decrease for the user. Proximity to the user increases the likelihood of a Cursed Hunt.

Cursed Hunts are similar to regular hunts but ignore sanity levels and can occur immediately after a previous hunt, lasting 20 seconds longer.

The following table details each Cursed Object's function:

Cursed ObjectAbility
Tarot CardsTen cards with random buffs, debuffs, or increased ghost activity. The "Death" card triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Ouija BoardDirect communication with the ghost. Certain questions ("Hide and Seek") or shattering the board trigger a Cursed Hunt.
Haunted MirrorReveals the ghost's favorite room. Shattering the mirror triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Music BoxReveals the ghost's location via a special event. Prolonged use triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Summoning CircleSummons and traps the ghost. Always triggers a Cursed Hunt unless a Tier 3 Crucifix is present.
Voodoo DollForces ghost interactions by pushing pins. Pushing the heart pin triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Monkey PawGrants wishes affecting the ghost or environment. Certain wishes can severely hinder the player.

Choosing the right Cursed Object depends on game mode and difficulty. Some are inherently safer and more beneficial.

Haunted Mirror

The Haunted Mirror is the safest, offering significant advantages with minimal risk. It quickly reveals the ghost's preferred room, allowing for efficient evidence gathering. However, prolonged use lowers sanity, and shattering it triggers a Cursed Hunt.

Ouija Board

A reliable option, the Ouija Board directly reveals the ghost's location and the bone's position (useful for "Perfect Investigation" bonuses).

Voodoo Doll

Useful for triggering ghost interactions for evidence gathering, but avoid the heart pin to prevent a Cursed Hunt.
