A new report from Niko Partners, a video game market research firm, suggests a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV, developed by Tencent, is slated for release in China. This follows earlier, unconfirmed reports of a Tencent-Square Enix collaboration on a mobile FFXIV title.

While the report lists the game among titles approved by China's National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA), neither Square Enix nor Tencent have officially confirmed the project. Industry speculation, as noted by Niko Partners' analyst Daniel Ahmad, points to a standalone mobile MMORPG distinct from the PC version.
Square Enix's Multiplatform Push
This potential partnership aligns with Square Enix's recently announced strategy of expanding its flagship titles, including Final Fantasy, to multiple platforms. Tencent's considerable experience in the mobile gaming market makes them a logical partner for this endeavor. The report also mentions other approved titles including mobile and PC versions of Rainbow Six, and mobile games based on Marvel Snap, Marvel Rivals, and Dynasty Warriors 8. The inclusion of a Final Fantasy XIV mobile game highlights the growing importance of the Chinese mobile gaming market and Square Enix’s commitment to a broader audience.
