Revealed on January 16th, The Blood of Dawnwalker offers a narrative-driven experience. Players embody Coen, a Dawnwalker navigating a fictional 14th-century Medieval European world, Vale Sangora. Narrative director Jakub Szamalek describes Coen as an emotionally complex and relatable protagonist, a departure from typical game heroes. Coen's journey begins with a confrontation against Brencis, an ancient vampire who controls Vale Sangora. Facing the crumbling remnants of human civilization, Coen races against time—30 days and nights—to save his family. While the game features a time constraint, developers assure players of ample playtime.
The reveal trailer showcases Coen's unique vampiric abilities, including superhuman agility and magical prowess. Many questions remain, but Rebel Wolves addressed some on their official Discord server.
Dawnwalkers, explained in the Discord FAQ, are not simply half-vampire, half-human. They are a unique entity, existing between the two. The game's magic system differs from typical fantasy fare, focusing on occult practices—rituals, amulets, and summonings—rather than flashy spellcasting.
A Narrative Sandbox with Rich Character Interactions
Coen, cursed with silver poisoning, strives to save his family. However, the game emphasizes player agency within a "narrative sandbox," allowing significant control over the story's progression. The nonlinear gameplay and dynamic world react to player choices.
