The much-anticipated Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has taken a significant step forward with the announcement that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the creative minds behind the successful Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, have been tapped to write the screenplay. This exciting news comes as part of a renewed effort to bring Hasbro's iconic board game to the big screen, following Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro.

Daley and Goldstein, who have also recently written and directed their original film, Mayday, bring a wealth of experience to the project. Their previous work includes writing credits on major films such as The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their ability to handle high-profile projects with flair and creativity.

The Monopoly film will be produced by Margot Robbie under her production company, LuckyChap, adding another layer of star power and creative vision to the project. This collaboration marks a fresh start for the Monopoly movie, which has seen numerous attempts over the years to bring it to life.

Previous efforts to adapt Monopoly into a film date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott expressed interest in directing. In 2011, Scott enlisted writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, but that version never materialized. Another attempt in 2015 saw Lionsgate and Hasbro teaming up with writer Andrew Niccol, followed by reports in 2019 that actor Kevin Hart and director Tim Story would be involved. However, none of these earlier projects came to fruition.

With Daley and Goldstein at the helm of the screenplay and Robbie's production prowess, fans of the classic board game can look forward to a new and hopefully successful take on Monopoly. As the project moves forward, the hope is that this version will not only pass Go but also capture the hearts of audiences worldwide.
