Marvel Comics is set to reboot its Captain America monthly series with a fresh creative team and storyline focusing on Steve Rogers' early days post-thaw. This new series will even depict Cap's very first encounter with Doctor Doom.
As announced at the ComicsPro retailer convention, the series will be written by Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Daredevil) and illustrated by Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers), with colors by Frank D'Armata. This marks a reunion for the trio, who previously collaborated on Marvel's 2017 2-in-One.

The story begins shortly after Steve's rediscovery and revival in the contemporary Marvel universe. His initial mission, following his re-enlistment in the US Army, involves a collaboration with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate a Latveria recently seized by a young, ambitious Doctor Doom. While the series will eventually transition to present-day Marvel, the events of this initial arc will significantly impact Zdarsky and Schiti's overarching narrative.
Zdarsky stated, "I've been a huge Captain America fan for years. I loved writing the seasoned, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, so tackling the main Captain America title feels surreal! We're exploring Cap's early modern era experiences with a surprising twist! I'm thrilled to share this, especially with Valerio and Frank's incredible artwork!"
He continued, "My approach mirrors my Daredevil run, delving into Cap's psyche with a realistic, human perspective on his journey in this new world. Steve Rogers embodies the best of humanity, and I aim to reflect that on every page."
Schiti commented, "Captain America is one of my all-time favorites. Reuniting with Chip Zdarsky and Frank D'Armata after our fantastic experience on Marvel 2-In-One is amazing. We're crafting a story that perfectly blends heart, action, and entertainment! Surprisingly, I found myself focusing more on Steve Rogers, the man, rather than just Captain America."
Schiti added, "Chip's script is so ingenious and captivating; readers will be drawn into Steve's heart and soul. He's a man who became the living embodiment of truth, justice, and freedom. He fought Nazism, 'died,' and returned to continue his fight. That's immense pressure, especially considering he's only in his late twenties during this era!"
Captain America #1 launches July 2, 2025.
