Quick Links

Moonstone, the latest addition to Marvel Snap's roster of Ongoing cards, is a game-changer with her ability to mimic the text of your 1-, 2-, and 3-Cost Ongoing cards in her lane. Often dubbed "the Glass Cannon of Marvel SNAP," she's an enhanced version of Mystique, yet crafting a formidable deck around her can be challenging.

After extensive testing, I've pinpointed the most effective decks for Moonstone: Patriot and Tribunal setups. This guide will delve into how to build and optimize these decks. If you're still undecided about including Moonstone in your collection, we'll also provide a brief analysis to help you make your decision.

Moonstone (4–6)

Ongoing: Has the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards here.

Series: Five (Ultra Rare)

Season: Dark Avengers

Release: January 15, 2025

The Best Deck for Moonstone

Moonstone shines when utilized in a supportive role rather than as the main win condition. For a dependable setup, integrate Moonstone into a Patriot-Ultron deck. The key is to have her copy one or two crucial Ongoing effects without over-relying on her ability.

To build an effective Moonstone deck with Patriot and Ultron, include the following cards: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.

Moonstone Deck Synergies

  • Start by setting up the board with Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl to prepare for buffs.
  • In one lane, deploy Patriot, followed by Mystique and Moonstone, ideally in that sequence.
  • In the final round, play Ultron to fill all locations and maximize the buffs.
  • Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird serve as backup cards to address any power shortfalls in one or two lanes if necessary.

An Alternative Deck for Moonstone

For a more thrilling yet less consistent approach, pair Moonstone with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. Use Moonstone as your primary win condition alongside these cards: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.

Captain America33
Howard the Duck12
Magik32

Here's the ideal play line:

  1. Utilize Psylocke to play Moonstone earlier than usual.
  2. Play Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man in her lane to amplify her effect.
  3. In the final round, use The Living Tribunal to distribute the Power across all lanes.

Psylocke and Sera act as discount providers, enabling you to play your key cards sooner. Magik extends the game, allowing you to play Onslaught before The Living Tribunal. Captain America and Iron Lad are your safety nets if you don't draw the necessary cards on time.

While many expected the Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal trio to dominate the meta post-release, few foresaw Super Skrull becoming her nemesis in this setup.

How to Counter Moonstone

Moonstone players face a challenge as she's easily countered by Super Skrull. Since her introduction, players have been incorporating Super Skrull into their decks to anticipate Moonstone decks, and it's proven effective. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also serve as viable counters, making Moonstone quite vulnerable.

Moonstone's primary weakness is that she absorbs abilities from cards in her own lane. Unless you shield her with cards like Invisible Woman, opponents can easily neutralize that lane using Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue. Alternatively, they can deploy Super Skrull in another lane to disrupt your strategy entirely.

Is Moonstone Worth It?

Moonstone is definitely worth your Spotlight Keys for several reasons: 1) Her unique ability will only grow more potent as more synergistic Ongoing cards are introduced; 2) She's part of a Spotlight Cache with two other Series Five cards, mitigating the risk of a disappointing pull; and 3) She evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the days when executing wild combos resulted in significant board advantages. If you're nostalgic for those times, Moonstone is a card you should consider acquiring.
