Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Release Date Delivery Not Guaranteed Amid High Demand

by Skylar Apr 27,2025

Nintendo has issued a crucial update for U.S. fans eagerly awaiting the release of the Switch 2, set for June 5. The company has warned that due to high demand in Japan, it may struggle to meet the release-day delivery expectations for those who have registered their interest through the My Nintendo Store. As a result, invitation emails for purchasing the console might arrive after the launch date, though Nintendo assures that they will confirm shipping dates upon purchase.

Nintendo expressed gratitude to fans who have shown enthusiasm for the Switch 2, stating, "We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase."

To increase the chances of obtaining a Switch 2 at launch, Nintendo suggests pre-ordering through third-party retailers. However, this advice comes at a time when Switch 2 pre-orders have already sold out at places like GameStop. For those who prefer to wait for an invitation from My Nintendo Store, no further action is needed after registering interest.

The challenges faced by fans during the pre-order phase on April 24, coupled with Nintendo's warning, indicate that securing a Switch 2 at launch may be difficult. Earlier this week, Nintendo also warned its Japanese customers that a significant number would miss out on pre-ordering directly from the company. President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that 2.2 million people in Japan alone applied for a pre-order, far exceeding the company's expectations and available stock for the launch date.

According to the FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitations for the U.S. My Nintendo Store will be sent starting May 8, 2025, with additional batches sent periodically until the store opens to everyone. These invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Invitees will have 72 hours from the time the email is sent to complete their purchase.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:

  • You must have purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • You must have maintained any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months.
  • You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours of total gameplay hours.

Last week, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. would begin on April 24, 2025, with the console priced at $449.99 and a launch date of June 5. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will remain priced at $499.99, with Mario Kart World at $79.99 and Donkey Kong Bananza at $69.99 for both physical and digital versions. However, Nintendo has increased the prices of Switch 2 accessories due to ongoing tariff issues.

Nintendo had initially planned to open pre-orders on April 9 but delayed them to assess the potential impact of tariffs and market conditions.
