Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG, will achieve a 60 frames-per-second (fps) frame rate on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in a MinnMax interview. While she provided no additional details, the Xbox Series S version will remain capped at 30fps, as previously announced.
Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes (60fps with lower visuals versus 30fps with enhanced visuals) or if the Series X will default to 60fps remains unconfirmed.
The game's release date presents a tiered pricing structure. Early access begins February 13th for those purchasing the premium edition ($89.99), while the standard edition ($69.99) launches on February 18th. This staggered release strategy, although employed by several publishers, has been abandoned by some, such as Ubisoft.
Avowed, set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player agency. Players will unravel narratives of war, mystery, and intrigue, building relationships and rivalries within the game's world.
IGN's final preview lauded Avowed's sophisticated dialogue, player freedom, and overall enjoyable gameplay, concluding that "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
