Omori's European publisher, Meridiem Games, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. This decision has left many fans disappointed, especially those eagerly awaiting the game's availability in multiple European languages.
A Series of Unfortunate Delays
Omori's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe was initially set for March 2023, according to listings on Amazon. However, the release faced multiple delays, first being pushed back to December 2023, then to March 2024, and finally to January 2025. Unfortunately, these delays have now culminated in the cancellation of the physical release, as announced by Meridiem Games on Twitter (X). The publisher cited technical difficulties with multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.
When asked about the specific problems with localization, Meridiem Games stated that they could not provide further details beyond what was shared in their initial announcement. This lack of information has added to the frustration felt by fans who were looking forward to experiencing Omori in their native languages.
The cancellation is particularly disappointing because it would have marked the first time that Omori was officially available in Spanish and other European languages. While European fans can still obtain physical copies of the game for Switch and PS4, they will need to import a US version to do so.
Omori is a captivating RPG that follows the journey of a young boy named Sunny, who isolates himself following a traumatic event. The game seamlessly transitions between the real world and Sunny's dream world, where he assumes the persona of Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, Omori expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox platforms in 2022. However, due to controversy surrounding an inappropriate T-shirt design sold by OMOCAT in 2013, the game was removed from the Xbox platform, leaving it unavailable for Xbox players.
