Capcom unveils exciting new gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal also confirms the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as the game's protagonist.
A fresh trailer debuted during PlayStation's State of Play showcase, offering a captivating glimpse into the game's sword-focused combat and imposing enemies. Despite its 2026 release date, the game's visuals and action sequences are already impressive.
The game features Miyamoto Musashi, a renowned Japanese swordsman, whose historical prowess is faithfully represented in his unparalleled swordsmanship. The trailer also hints at Musashi's playful and comedic side.
Capcom's press release describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game starring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late Toshiro Mifune, a legendary Japanese actor known for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.
The game is set in a Kyoto overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning demonic entities from Hell into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
