Overture DLC Not Linked to Base Game's Final Cutscene, Says Lies of P Director

by Owen Apr 21,2025

Ever since the announcement of the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, titled Overture, fans have been buzzing with speculation about the mysteries it might unveil. However, during last week's Game Developers Conference, IGN uncovered that one particular mystery—the base game's surprising final cutscene—won't be addressed in the DLC.

For those yet to experience the end of Lies of P, here's a spoiler-free heads-up: the game concludes with a cutscene hinting at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe. This twist has sparked intense discussions among fans, who are eager to see how it will be developed and whether the DLC would shed light on it. Yet, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi clarified that this cutscene isn't related to the DLC. He remained tight-lipped, only stating, "Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future."

With Neowiz already working on a full sequel to Lies of P, it's possible that the mysterious cutscene connects to Lies of P 2. However, details about the sequel remain scarce, and Choi offered no hints during our conversation.

Choi emphasized Neowiz's commitment to quality, saying, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

PlayThe cutscene in question, which we discussed with Choi, is the infamous Dorothy scene. As we detailed previously, the final cutscene shows Paracelcus on a phone call, mentioning he will "find her, for sure. Another key of ours: Dorothy." The scene then reveals the iconic striped socks and ruby slippers of Dorothy from *The Wizard of Oz*, suggesting that future *Lies of P* stories might intertwine with other public domain fairy tales. However, the connection remains unclear, and we now know it won't be explained in *Overture*.

SPOILERS END HERE.

PlayWhile the Dorothy scene won't be part of *Overture*, Choi hinted at what the DLC will include. He encouraged fans to replay the base game, suggesting that it contains clues to what's coming:

"When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience," Choi remarked. "A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in the expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that, are going to be included in the expansion."

Choi also noted that some fans are already close to uncovering Neowiz's plans, as he keeps an eye on online fan theories and finds some remarkably insightful.

Additional details about the DLC include an estimated playtime of 15-20 hours for experienced players. It will be accessible after completing a "certain" chapter of the game and available until the end. We also learned from the game's announcement that Overture is a prequel, transporting the main character back in time to Krat just before its fall. The DLC promises new locations, enemies and bosses, characters, and weapons, though Choi is keeping most details under wraps for the release.
