Pokémon TCG: Space Time Smackdown Expansion Launches Today

by Michael Mar 12,2025

Pokémon TCG Pocket's latest major update delivers the highly anticipated Space Time Smackdown expansion, based on the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games. This expansion, split into Dialga and Palkia-themed booster packs, introduces 207 cards—a smaller set than Genetic Apex, but boasting a higher percentage of rare cards (52 alternate art Star and Crown rarity cards, compared to Genetic Apex's 60). The core set contains 155 cards, excluding alternate arts. Ten new ex Pokémon join the roster: Yanmega, Infernape, Palkia, Pacharisu, Mismagius, Gallade, Weavile, Darkrai, Dialga, and Lickilicky, adding an ex Pokémon to every type except Dragon, and giving Darkness two.

A significant addition is the introduction of Pokémon Tool cards: Giant Cape (+20 HP), Rocky Helmet (deals 20 HP when the active Pokémon takes damage), and Lum Berry (removes status conditions).

Battles

Space Time Smackdown brings new Solo Battles across Intermediate (8), Advanced (9), and Expert (8) tiers, featuring Pokémon like Dialga ex, Palkia ex, Togekiss, and more. The meta is expected to shift significantly. Infernape ex's powerful 140 damage attack (though discarding Energy) and Palkia ex's 150 damage attack (with additional damage to benched Pokémon) are particularly notable. Weavile ex offers a versatile attack, and Steel-type decks receive a substantial boost with Dialga ex and other new cards.

Missions and Rewards

New missions offer familiar rewards: Pack Hourglasses, Wonder Hourglasses, Emblem Tickets, and more (notably excluding Trading Tokens, though players received a 500-token gift). Rewards unlock new shop items, including Dialga and Palkia album covers, the Lovely Hearts backdrop, and a Cynthia-themed Poké Gold bundle.

Trading

Despite the recent trading update, Creatures Inc. remains largely silent on player feedback. While a "Trade Feature Celebration Gift" (500 Trade Tokens and 120 Trade Hourglasses) was provided, concerns remain about the high Trade Token costs for trading higher-rarity cards. Trading requires selling cards to acquire these tokens, leading to criticism about the system's inefficiency and complexity. The required token amounts are substantial, especially for rarer cards like ex Pokémon and Crown rarity cards, prompting negative player reactions.
