The Sims franchise commemorates its 25th anniversary with a spectacular celebration! This includes in-game events, a marathon 25-hour livestream, and the highly anticipated return of two beloved titles. Let's delve into the details.
Happy 25th Anniversary, The Sims!
A Celebration of Events and Free Gifts
Players are treated to a wealth of in-game rewards, a star-studded livestream showcasing top Simmers, and the triumphant comeback of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 on PC.
Kevin Gibson, The Sims Production Director, shared with Xbox Wire: "Our amazing players have shown us that nobody captures life quite like The Sims, and we wanted to celebrate this incredible journey together. Twenty-five years ago, a game with a groundbreaking concept made a splash at E3, and look how far we've come! We've been a part of multiple generations, touching millions of lives." He emphasized that this success wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering support of players over the past two decades.
"Every Simmer, throughout the years and across all the ways people play The Sims, is part of this 25-year journey, and this is our way of saying thank you."
The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 Make a Comeback
The biggest news? Players can revisit the origins of their Simming adventures! To mark the 25th anniversary, The Sims 1 and The Sims 2, complete with all their DLC, are available for purchase on Steam and the EA store – individually or as a special Birthday Bundle.
This is a significant event for Simmers, as these original titles haven't been readily available for almost a decade. Even with physical copies, running them on modern systems required extensive technical adjustments. EA has eliminated this hurdle by releasing versions compatible with current hardware – a long-awaited re-release.
In-Game Festivities for The Sims 4 and The Sims FreePlay
The Sims 4 features the "Blast From The Past" event, introducing iconic clothing, furniture, and décor from earlier games. Over four weeks, new items will be progressively added, including neon inflatable chairs, a three-tiered cake, a light-up dance floor, and even rotary phones.
The Sims FreePlay's Birthday Update transports players back to the series' early 2000s roots. This includes new Live Events ("The One with the Coffee Shop" and "Reality Island"), a velour tracksuit, 25 days of daily gifts, and a Social Town museum showcasing The Sims' history.
A 25-Hour Livestream for 25 Years
The anniversary kicked off with a remarkable 25-hour livestream on February 4th, featuring numerous celebrities, streamers, and beloved Simmers. Guests included Doja Cat, Latto, Trixie Mattel and Katya, Dan & Phil, Plumbella, Angelo & Lexy, Ironmouse, and many more.
