The Central Concept Of Arthurian Myths And Knights

Eclipse Glow Games, a China-based studio, has strategically chosen a Western setting for Tides of Annihilation, influenced by their financial backer, Tencent. The producer explained, "This game and Black Myth: Wukong are two projects invested in by Tencent, and there were different expectations set on these two projects. Black Myth: Wukong targeted the Chinese market, but for this project, we targeted a Western audience, so we chose the Arthurian legends." This decision led to a central theme revolving around knights, evolving into the iconic King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

Set in a post-apocalyptic modern-day London devastated by an Outworld invasion, Tides of Annihilation follows the journey of Gwendolyn, the apparent last human survivor. While the game is grounded in a modern setting, it seamlessly integrates fantasy elements inspired by Arthurian myths.

Devil May Cry-inspired Combat And Over 30 Bosses

Fans of action-RPGs will find Tides of Annihilation's combat reminiscent of the classic Devil May Cry series. The developers confirmed this influence, stating, "It's definitely more like Devil May Cry" but with an added layer of accessibility through difficulty selection. This feature caters to a broader audience, including those new to action games.

Players can customize their combat style with four weapons and over ten different Knights to summon as sidekicks. Gwendolyn discovers her ability to command the legendary Knights of the Round Table, aiding her in navigating a ruined London and uncovering the mystery of the invasion. With over 30 unique bosses to challenge, the gameplay promises to be both engaging and demanding. "Players will have to prepare for very challenging boss fights," the developers emphasized.

Plans Of Creating An Anthology

Looking ahead, Eclipse Glow Games expressed interest in expanding Tides of Annihilation into an anthology. They aim to explore various settings and mythologies, potentially introducing a new protagonist for each installment. "But we would still want to use the Outworld invasion concept that we're using for Tides of Annihilation," they noted, indicating a desire to maintain a cohesive narrative thread throughout the series. The success of the initial title is crucial to realizing this vision and bringing more mythologies to life.

Currently in its beta phase, Tides of Annihilation is slated for a tentative release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will follow Gwendolyn's gripping journey as she battles fate and endeavors to save both London and the intertwined fantasy realm of Avalon.
