According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion was set to launch this year, coinciding with the release of a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came after concerns arose that the content volume did not justify the proposed price, as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. did not provide a comment on this matter when approached by Bloomberg.
Amidst ongoing financial challenges, Warner Bros. has been restructuring its gaming division. This year alone, the company canceled the much-anticipated Wonder Woman game and shut down the development studio behind it, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs occurred at Rocksteady Studios as recently as last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the significance of Hogwarts Legacy and the broader Harry Potter franchise within its portfolio. The company has highlighted that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities," focusing on nurturing fewer but larger franchises. The original game has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
