MAME4droid, developed by David Valdeita (Seleuco), is an engaging Android port of the renowned MAME 0.37b5 emulator, originally crafted by Nicola Salmoria and the MAME Team. This powerful app brings the essence of iMAME4all, designed for jailbroken iPhones and iPads, to Android users, building on the robust foundation laid by Franxis' GP2X, WIZ MAME4ALL 2.5.
With MAME4droid, dive into a world of over 2000 arcade classics supported by MAME 0.37b5, along with select titles from more recent MAME versions. It's important to understand that with such a vast library, performance can vary significantly across games. Some games may run smoothly, while others may not be compatible at all. For this reason, if you're looking for support on a specific game, please refer to community forums rather than contacting the developer directly.
Users with older devices might need to adjust settings for optimal performance. Consider lowering sound quality or disabling it entirely, using 8-bit depth, underclocking the CPU and Sound CPUs, and turning off animations for sticks and buttons as well as smooth scaling to enhance your gaming experience.
To start enjoying your favorite arcade classics, simply place your MAME-compatible ROMs, zipped and titled appropriately, in the /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/roms folder after installing the app. MAME4droid is designed to work specifically with MAME4droid and iMAME4all '0.37b5', 'GP2X, WIZ 0.37b11 mame romset'. If you have ROMs from other MAME versions, utilize the "clrmame.dat" file located in /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/ to convert them using the ClrMAME Pro utility, which you can find at http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/.
Please note that MAME4droid does not support save states, a feature absent in its foundational MAME version. For the latest updates, source code, and additional information, visit the official webpage at http://code.google.com/p/imame4all/.
