Assassin's Creed Shadows' Release Date Shifts Again to March 20, 2025
Ubisoft has announced another delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing the release date back from February 14, 2025, to March 20, 2025. This marks the second delay for the title, initially slated for a November 2024 release.
The publisher cites the need to integrate player feedback as the primary reason for this latest postponement. This contrasts with the first delay, attributed to internal development challenges concerning historical accuracy. Ubisoft's Vice President and Executive Producer, Marc-Alexis Coté, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering a polished and immersive experience, facilitated by ongoing player-developer communication. Both delays, according to Coté, provide crucial additional time for refinement and polishing.
The September 2024 delay, which shifted the release by three months, resulted in pre-order refunds and the offer of a free expansion pass for future pre-orders. While Ubisoft hasn't yet commented on similar compensation for this shorter, five-week delay, the impact is expected to be less significant.
This latest delay may also be connected to Ubisoft's internal investigation into its development practices, launched in response to disappointing sales figures and record losses in fiscal year 2023. The investigation aims to create a more "player-centric" approach to game development, and incorporating fan feedback into Assassin's Creed Shadows aligns with this goal.
Key takeaway: Assassin's Creed Shadows will now launch on March 20, 2025.
