Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has voiced his strong desire for a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation featuring himself and Keanu Reeves. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (which also stars Reeves), Elba enthusiastically stated that a live-action Cyberpunk film starring himself and Reeves would be "Whoa." This isn't their first collaboration, fueling the excitement for a potential on-screen reunion.
Elba's enthusiasm stems from the potential synergy between his character, Solomon Reed, and Reeves' iconic portrayal of Johnny Silverhand. The idea of bringing these two compelling characters together in a live-action setting clearly excites him.
This isn't just wishful thinking; Variety reported in October 2023 that CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is indeed developing a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project with Anonymous Content. While updates have been scarce since the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action The Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk live-action adaptation is a viable and potentially lucrative venture.
More Cyberpunk News: A Prequel Manga and Blu-ray Release
Beyond the live-action possibility, the Cyberpunk franchise continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched its first chapter in several languages, including Japanese, Polish, Italian, German, Spanish, and French. A Traditional Chinese version is slated for December 20th, with an English release date yet to be announced. The manga will explore the backstory of Rebecca and Pilar, before their involvement with Maine's crew. Furthermore, a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Blu-ray release is planned for 2025, and a new animated series is also in the works.
