Following several successful Xbox 360 installments and the Xbox One launch title, Dead Rising 3, the mixed reception of Dead Rising 4 likely contributed to the franchise's extended hiatus.
While the original 2006 Dead Rising was initially an Xbox 360 exclusive, an enhanced version arrived on major platforms a decade later, preceding Dead Rising 4. In the interim, Capcom focused extensively on its Resident Evil franchise, delivering acclaimed remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 4, alongside new first-person entries like Resident Evil Village. This success likely overshadowed Dead Rising's development.
Eight years post-Dead Rising 4, Capcom announced the "Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster," a current-gen remaster of the original game. A brief YouTube trailer showcased the game's opening sequence. While platform and release date remain unconfirmed, a 2024 release is anticipated.
Capcom's Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster: A New Look at a Classic
Despite a 2016 enhancement for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, this remaster promises improved performance and visuals. This raises speculation about potential remasters of the sequels. However, given Capcom's apparent preference for remasters over full-scale remakes (as seen with the Resident Evil series), the likelihood of ground-up remakes for Dead Rising seems low. This strategic focus likely reflects the proven success of the Resident Evil remakes, minimizing potential market dilution. Nevertheless, the possibility of a Dead Rising 5 remains.
2024 has already witnessed a wave of successful remasters and remakes, including Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Braid: Anniversary Edition, and Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster. Should Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster launch this year, it would join other Xbox 360-era remasters such as Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP, and Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered.
