Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox
Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title, has received a small, unexpected update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The update, weighing in at a mere 230MB (though requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), appears to focus on bug fixes and language file updates. This comes as a surprise to many fans, who had hoped for more substantial improvements.
Developed by Arkane Lyon (currently working on Marvel's Blade), Dishonored 2, released in late 2016, introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding upon the original's acclaimed gameplay and level design. The studio's sister studio, Arkane Austin (responsible for the original Dishonored, Prey, and Redfall), was unfortunately impacted by the 2024 Xbox studio closures.
The recent patch, while appreciated, falls short of the performance enhancements many players desired. Unlike other Arkane titles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, despite fan requests for a 60 FPS upgrade. Even the original Dishonored and its standalone spin-off, Death of the Outsider, benefit from enhanced performance on current-gen consoles. While a 60 FPS patch for Dishonored 2's tenth anniversary in 2026 is possible, it remains uncertain.
The lack of a major update further highlights the long wait for a potential third mainline Dishonored game. The closure of Arkane Austin significantly impacts Arkane's development capacity, pushing any future Dishonored title further into the future. For now, Arkane Lyon's focus remains on its upcoming Marvel's Blade project, with no official release date yet announced.
