Cancelled Transformers Game: Leaked Gameplay Footage Surfaces
Recently cancelled by Splash Damage, gameplay footage of the co-op title Transformers: Reactivate has re-emerged online. Announced in 2022 in partnership with Hasbro, Transformers: Reactivate promised a multiplayer experience featuring Generation 1 Autobots and Decepticons uniting against an alien threat to Earth.
Despite the 2022 announcement at The Game Awards, little gameplay was publicly shown, leading to speculation before the official cancellation. Splash Damage cited a shift in focus to other projects, with potential job losses resulting from the project's closure.
Following the cancellation, leaked footage from a 2020 build has resurfaced. The clip showcases Bumblebee navigating a destroyed city, seamlessly transforming between robot and vehicle modes while engaging an alien enemy force known as "the Legion." The gameplay style bears resemblance to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, albeit with a different antagonist.
A Glimpse at What Could Have Been
Despite some unfinished textures, the leaked footage displays a polished game, incorporating environmental destruction. The clip concludes with a silent cutscene depicting Bumblebee emerging from a portal in a ruined New York City, communicating with an ally named Devin about the Legion's attacks.
Numerous other leaks from 2020, predating the official announcement, have also surfaced. While Transformers: Reactivate will not see release, the leaked footage offers a look at the ambitious, yet ultimately cancelled, multiplayer project.
