Nintendo's Surprise: An Interactive Alarm Clock and a Switch Online Playtest
Forget your 2024 predictions; Nintendo just launched a gaming alarm clock! The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, priced at $99, uses game sounds to rouse you from slumber. Imagine waking up to the sounds of Mario, Zelda, or Splatoon! More soundtracks will be added for free in the future.
The Alarmo's unique feature? It only stops ringing when you fully leave your bed, rewarding your morning victory with a celebratory sound. You can try waving your hand to quiet the alarm, but prolonged slumber will only increase its intensity.
The clock utilizes a radio wave sensor to detect movement, ensuring privacy while functioning even in dark rooms or with obstacles. Nintendo developer Tetsuya Akama emphasized the sensor's sensitivity and privacy advantages over camera-based systems.
For a limited time, US and Canadian Nintendo Switch Online members can purchase the Alarmo through the My Nintendo Store, before its general release. It will also be available at the Nintendo New York store while supplies last.
Beyond the Alarmo, Nintendo announced a Switch Online playtest.
