Nintendo's Latest Announcement: A LEGO Game Boy!
Nintendo has revealed its newest collaboration with LEGO: a buildable LEGO Game Boy! Launching October 2025, this follows the successful LEGO NES release. While exciting news for fans of both brands, the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked a flurry of speculation regarding the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Many users jokingly interpreted the Game Boy announcement as a substitute for the Switch 2 reveal.
The lack of Switch 2 details hasn't stopped Nintendo. President Furukawa confirmed on May 7, 2024, that a Switch successor announcement is planned within the current fiscal year (ending March 2025). Fans will have to remain patient for further information.
Pricing for the LEGO Game Boy remains undisclosed, but further details are expected in the coming weeks or months.
Previous Nintendo/LEGO Collaborations
Beyond the NES, Nintendo and LEGO have previously teamed up to produce sets featuring iconic characters from popular franchises such as Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and The Legend of Zelda (TLZ).
A notable example is the May 2024 release of the 2,500-piece LEGO "Great Deku Tree 2-in-1" set from The Legend of Zelda series. This impressive set, priced at $299.99 USD, features elements from both Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild, including Princess Zelda and the Master Sword.
Following two months later, a Super Mario-themed LEGO set debuted, showcasing a pixel art rendition of Mario riding Yoshi from Super Mario World. A rotating crank animates Yoshi's leg, offering a unique interactive element. This set is available for $129.99 USD.
