Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a suitable location; it demands robust defenses. This guide focuses on a fundamental yet effective method: barricading windows.
Barricading Windows in Project Zomboid
To effectively board up your windows, you'll need specific materials: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Resource Acquisition
Hammers and nails are typically found in expected locations: toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and similar areas. Wooden planks are commonly located on construction sites. In a pinch, you can dismantle wooden furniture (shelves, chairs) to obtain planks. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items.
Barricade Effectiveness and Removal
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie entry compared to unprotected windows. The more planks used, the greater the resistance. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note that you'll require a claw hammer or crowbar for this task.
Limitations and Alternatives
Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as window barriers; characters and zombies will pass through them. While these items are useless for defense, knowing how to move furniture remains a valuable skill for interior arrangement.
More robust barricades can be constructed using metal bars or sheets, but this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
