If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* isn’t an MMORPG, let the presence of fishing be your proof. Yes, if a game features fishing, it's officially an MMORPG. Joking aside, you're here to master the art of fishing in *Rune Slayer*, and we’re here to guide you through it. Trust us, we struggled at first, but we've cracked the code and are eager to share how you can catch fish in *Rune Slayer*. Spoiler Alert: It's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.
Before You Start Fishing in Rune Slayer
Before you dive into the world of fishing, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. You'll find this white-haired NPC at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon's task for you is to catch 5 “fish,” and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we’ll explain the quotation marks later).
Here's the catch: **to start fishing, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is your go-to vendor for these essentials.
Head over and **purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. It's recommended to buy at least 5 worms, but we opted for 10 to be on the safe side. **No, you can't equip the bait** directly. Instead, the Worms **simply need to be in your inventory**; they're automatically used when you fish. **Each time you catch a fish, one Worm is removed from your inventory**.
Here’s a crucial tip: **you won't be able to catch any fish without at least 5 bait items**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Only after having 5 Worms did we start reeling in catches. We suggest placing the Worms in your hotbar to monitor your inventory easily. Once you've got everything ready, you can proceed to the next step.
How to Catch Fish in Rune Slayer
First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it traditionally; just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will ready it in both hands.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water** (the pier next to Simon the Fisherman works perfectly).
Keep an eye on the bobber, and when it **creates one or two ripples**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
Be aware, **this method isn't foolproof**. Often, you might not catch anything at all. Other times, you'll pull up junk, but the good news is **Simon counts junk as a catch** (hence the quotation marks around "fish" earlier).
Your goal is to cast your line, wait for the ripples, and reel in anything five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish; the rest were Old Cups.
**Once you've caught 5 "fish," return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and transfer your remaining worms inside to save precious inventory space.
And that's all there is to fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your fishing adventures! For more tips and tricks, don't forget to check out **The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
