In the highly anticipated game, Assassin's Creed Shadows, players can choose between two intriguing protagonists: Naoe, a female shinobi, and Yasuke, a historical African samurai whose inclusion has stirred significant discussion even before the game's release. Some fans have raised concerns about potentially missing out on crucial story elements or gameplay experiences if they focus primarily on one character over the other.

Jonathan Dumont, the creative director behind Assassin's Creed Shadows, has addressed these concerns, offering reassurance to players. Dumont shared his own approach to gameplay, noting, "I tend to switch between characters fairly evenly. For example, I might spend 3-5 hours with one protagonist, then switch and play another 2-3 hours with the second." However, he emphasized that players won't be at a significant disadvantage if they prefer to focus on one character. Each protagonist has their own unique opening sequences and personal story arcs, but the game is designed to adapt seamlessly to the player's choice.

Dumont encouraged players to follow their preferences, stating, "I don’t believe you’ll miss out on a lot. It really comes down to your personal playstyle. You might think, 'Alright, I’ll see how the game adjusts based on which character I pick.' Each hero has their own unique introductions and dedicated questlines, but the core experience is flexible. You can choose your favorite, and the narrative will adapt accordingly."
