Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Arrives on PC, but PSN Account RequiredMarvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC Release: January 30, 2025
The PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will include all the advanced features expected from a contemporary port. It is being developed and optimized by Nixxes Software, in close collaboration with Insomniac Games, PlayStation, and Marvel Games. Nixxes Software is primarily recognized for porting PlayStation games to the PC. Besides the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, they have also ported the Horizon games and Ghost of Tsushima to the platform.
"Bringing Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales to a new audience on PC alongside Insomniac and Marvel Games has been a rewarding experience for us at Nixxes," Community Manager at Nixxes Julian Huijbregts stated in a press release on PlayStation’s Blog. According to him and Mike Fitzgerald, Core Technology Director at Insomniac Games, the PC port will include ray-tracing, ultrawide monitor support, and numerous graphical options "that make it feel native on their platform."If you’ve been eager to play with keyboard and mouse or maximize your ultrawide monitor, this version is ideal. However, some features from the PS5’s DualSense controller, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, will be absent.
The PC release will include all content updates released since the PS5 version's debut. Players can expect twelve new suits—including Symbiote Suit styles—plus New Game+ and "Ultimate Levels." Also included are post-launch additions, such as new time-of-day choices, post-game accomplishments, and enhanced Photo Mode features. Further content awaits Digital Deluxe Edition purchasers. However, Insomniac Games confirmed no new narrative content for the PC port. While disappointing some fans, this might be understandable for those who've completed the game.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC's PSN Requirement Could be Detrimental
⚫︎ Screenshot taken from Helldivers 2's SteamDB PageUnfortunately, a rising pattern among PlayStation PC ports has created a hurdle for players in areas lacking access to PlayStation Network (PSN). This mandate, absent in prior series entries, effectively bars roughly 170 countries from playing the game.
This pattern started earlier this year when Sony declared that Helldivers 2 would need a PSN account. Sony later rescinded this choice, but the harm was done. Regions without PSN access remain unable to play, leaving many feeling deceived.
Prominent titles using this policy include God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West, the Until Dawn remake, and Ghost of Tsushima. Even these single-player games require a PSN account. This prompts questions about why linking a Steam account to PSN is needed for games without online multiplayer.
With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s PC launch, all three Insomniac Spider-Man games will finally be accessible on the platform—reinforcing Sony's commitment to broadening its reach beyond PlayStation consoles. While this strategy has areas for enhancement, it's laudable that Sony is actively bringing its exclusive series to a new platform. Whether you're a returning gamer or experiencing Peter and Miles' adventures for the first time, January 2025 can't arrive quickly enough. Here at Game8, we gave Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 a score of 88, noting it's a superb sequel to "what was already one of the best, if not the best, video game adaptations of Spider-Man."
