The Elder Scrolls Online has introduced a much-anticipated feature that fans have been requesting for over a decade—subclasses. Dive in to discover how this feature enhances gameplay and what's on the horizon for this iconic MMO.
Elder Scrolls Online Direct Updates
Over 3000 Combinations of Skill Lines
Celebrating its 10th Anniversary, The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is rolling out exciting updates, as announced during the ESO Direct 2025 on April 10. A standout announcement was the introduction of subclassing, a feature that fans have eagerly awaited.
For years, the community has voiced their desire to switch classes without having to create new characters whenever a new skill tree is released. Now, Zenimax Online Studios is making this a reality by allowing players to mix and match skill lines.
To utilize this feature, players need to reach level 50. At this point, they can retain one skill line from their base class and swap out the other two with any from the six available classes, leading to over 3000 unique combinations. This flexibility empowers players to tailor their characters to their preferred playstyle.
ESO Game Director Rich Lambert expressed confidence in the new feature, noting extensive testing and satisfaction with the balance of Power Levels it introduces.
Seasons of the Worm Cult
Zenimax Online is shifting to a seasonal content model, which Studio Director Matt Firor believes will enhance their ability to experiment with new content and better address player feedback.
He stated, "We aim to continue delivering compelling narratives while introducing innovative gameplay elements. This new approach will allow us to diversify our content and expand our creative horizons."
The upcoming chapter, 'Seasons of the Worm Cult,' marks a significant sequel to the original Molag Bal storyline, introducing the Isle of Solstice. Players will delve into this new zone to uncover the resurgence of the Worm Cult.
Producer Susan Kath mentioned that while the current season will span most of the year, future seasons will be shorter, lasting 3 to 6 months. Zenimax plans to reintroduce past storylines with 'remix' seasons, hinting at a future Dark Brotherhood-themed season.
